*Talk about the history*
Working parents often face the challenge of balancing their career responsibilities with ensuring the online safety and well-being of their children. They may struggle to keep track of their children's activities, monitor their online behaviour, and instill positive values and habits. This can lead to feelings of guilt and concern for parents, as they want to be actively involved in their child's life but may not have the time or resources to do so effectively. The Superr app tries to help with these challenges by giving busy parents a simple solution. It lets them stay in the loop and be a part of their child's life, all with just a few taps on their phone.
Coinedone began developing Superr in 2022. When I joined the company in January 2023, they had already created a product with all the typical parental control features. However, the CEO had a grander vision for Superr as a groundbreaking digital parenting tool that would surpass the capabilities of a standard parental control app. I was fortunate to join an exceptional team that worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.
My role
As a product designer, I collaborated closely with the product managers and front-end developers to understand the CEO's vision and translate it into a user-friendly interface.
Working as the sole designer in a startup was a challenging experience for me. However, it was also highly rewarding as I got the chance to work on two different apps, two websites, and design e-books and marketing assets. Due to constraints such as limited resources and tight timelines, I often had to jump straight into Figma to create high-fidelity designs first and then iterate based on feedback.
Background
The primary goal of the redesign of the Superr Parents app was to give it a personality, making it more visually appealing and engaging with an aesthetically pleasing interface that would meet the needs of working parents and provide them with quick access to all the information they required about their children. The challenge was to redesign the app with minimal front-end changes without making significant changes to the underlying code architecture.
Splash Screen
For the splash screen, I used Jitter to create a simple splash screen with minimal animation. This design choice was made to meet the requirements of providing a visually appealing and engaging introduction to the app. By using minimal animation, we aimed to achieve a balance between capturing the user's attention and ensuring a smooth and seamless transition to the home screen.

Evolution of Superr
Before starting to create designs in Figma, I decided to break down which areas of the home screen.
The Checklist (product tour feature) took up valuable screen space by showing an extra progress bar indicating the level the user has reached by exploring Super. This analysis helped me identify opportunities to optimise the home screen layout and make it more visually appealing. By removing the progress bar, I was able to create a cleaner and more streamlined design that still effectively guides users through the product tour feature
There were two primary buttons on the home screen: one for adding a new child and one for adding a new parenting partner. By analysing the interactions on the home screen, I was able to identify that both of these buttons were very rarely or never used since most users configure them during the onboarding process. This suggested a potential opportunity for improvement or reevaluation of its placement and visibility on the home screen. By introducing a My Family card, users can easily access and manage all their family members' profiles in one place, eliminating the need for a separate button for adding a new child or parenting partner.
Banner cards were redesigned to match the new colour scheme and to provide a more cohesive and visually appealing layout.
*Todo*
The most unique feature of Superr that distinguishes it from other parental control apps is Todo. Since it is the most complex element in terms of engineering and design, I concentrated on making the task management process and user interface as simple as possible.
ToDo Home
ToDo Home is a centralised hub where parents can create and manage tasks for their children, helping them stay organised and on top of their responsibilities.
Redesigning ToDo Home involved a lot of decisions about how the layout has to be and the hierarchy of the sections.
Evolution of ToDo Home
To improve the recommended section's visual appeal and user engagement, I created illustrations that match the new theme we followed.
ToDo Dashboard
The Child Dashboard Screen houses all tasks specific to a child, under categories based on the task completion status. It was important to ensure the overall design remained simple and user-friendly when adding several new features. This was achieved by organising the tasks into visually appealing cards with clear icons and labels for easy identification.
Task Creation Flow
The previous task creation flow had several technical and design issues. The action sheet design, which aimed to prioritise quick task creation, ended up overwhelming, with too many options in a small area, leading to visual clutter and cognitive overload. In the redesign, a step-by-step task creation process was implemented to address these challenges. This new flow provides intuitive prompts and clear instructions, guiding users through the task creation process and ensuring a more seamless and user-friendly experience. By simplifying the interface and reducing the cognitive load, the redesigned task flow makes it easier for parents to create tasks for their children.
Rituals: Meaningful tasks for childre
To create more purposeful and meaningful practices that can promote a child's development and personality, we worked on the Rituals feature, which is a collection of everyday tasks that are repeated and linked to specific routines.
Conclusion
Superr launched globally on December 1st, 2023. It was great to see that most of the contributions that I made during the eight months were brought to life. As the team continues to improve the app to provide the best user experience possible, I am excited to see how Superr positively impacts families and their children's growth.
